The Dali Theatre-Museum

The Dali Theatre-Museum

The Dalí Theatre-Museum, opened in 1974, was built on the remains of the ancient Theatre of Figueres, and contains a wide range of works that describe the artistic trajectory of Salvador Dalí (1904-1989), from his early artistic experiences and creations within surrealism, to the works he produced in the last years of his life.
One particular highlight in the Dalí Theatre-Museum is the set of works made by the artist expressly for the Theatre-Museum, such as the Mae West room, the Palace of the Wind, the Monument to Francesc Pujols and Rainy Cadillac. The Dalí Theatre-Museum should be seen as a whole, as Salvador Dalí’s great work, as it was conceived and designed by the artist to offer the visitor a true experience of entering into the artist’s unique and captivating world.

Figueres is located in the extreme north east of Catalonia. With a population of 45,000 inhabitants, it is the most important city in the area close to the border with France, the centre of an important communication hub making it the gateway and compulsory stop-off for travellers and tourists entering and leaving the Iberian Peninsula.
Located on a vast river plain, Figueres is the capital of the Alt Empordà region, serving as its economic and socio-cultural centre.
The region’s focus on tourism makes Figueres the nerve centre of the Costa Brava, one of the most important tourist areas in Catalonia.
Its geographical and strategic position make it an important communications centre with great accessibility. The traveller can reach the city directly by road or by train (RENFE national rail or AVE high-speed trains). By road it is reached via the AP-7 motorway (exit 4 Figueres Sur, if you are coming from Barcelona or exit 3 Figueres Norte, exit if you are coming from France), by the N-II from Girona or the N-260 from Portbou.
Regarding the railway, Figueres has two stations, the station located in the city centre where all the trains on the international line Barcelona – Portbou / Cervere stop, and the AVE/TGV station that quickly and conveniently connects Figueres with the main Spanish and European cities.
In front of the railway station in the centre of Figueres is the bus station, which is a stopping point for national and regional lines.
